Letter: Deer management story off mark

Rich Landers’ article on Stevens County deer management recommendations (March 31) is full of untrue statements and he should be ashamed of himself for insulting remarks against vice chair Gary Douvia that he has a spell over the seven-member fellow Fish and Wildlife commissioners. This is also an insult to the professionalism of the entire board. Mr. Douvia is very knowledgeable and highly respected for his views on wildlife management.

As for the N.E. Washington Forest Coalition, few people actually know of what took place in forming this group, as sportsmen, cattlemen, miners and the tribes were not invited to sit at the table.

Wilderness areas are also a topic of concern, as restrictions are very strict. Enforcement agents should not be anymore concerned about any point system in general. Antler point systems are used by many states, depending on what the end results they are striving for.

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has mismanaged our game species and predators for many years by trying to manage people instead of wildlife. Because Fish and Wildlife play a big part to the economy of Stevens County and the Tri-County area, our citizens are always quite concerned.
