Letter: Does winning trump integrity?

DeAngelo Casto’s recent non-suspension from WSU’s NIT quarterfinal game vs. Northwestern, after being cited for possession of marijuana, should be treated more seriously by schools such as WSU.

What kind of message is this event sending to young athletes? That as long as I am a good enough athlete, or important enough to my team, I won’t really get in very much trouble? The more things of this nature happen, the more it will be looked on as a social normality, and more youths will gain this mind-set. Is this what we want in the rising generation? An attitude that says winning is more important than integrity?
