Lakes Middle School student threatens another with knife

For the second time in less than a month, a North Idaho middle school student has been arrested for aggravated assault. Today, a 13-year-old held a knife to the neck of another 13-year-old boy in the cafeteria during lunch at Lakes Middle School, according to Coeur d’Alene police. The victim grabbed the knife to get away, and his hand was cut. He was treated and released from Kootenai Medical Center. Authorities said the incident that occurred about 12:30 p.m. was not preceded by a fight or yelling. The boy with the knife was arrested and booked into the Kootenai County Juvenile Detention facility. The incident remains under investigation, police officials said. On March 12, a Woodland Middle School eighth-grade boy was stabbed in the shoulder, chest and arm with a pocketknife by another eighth-grade boy. “Obviously, we are very concerned that despite our admonitions and zero-tolerance policy that kids are still bringing knives to school,” said Coeur d’Alene School District Superintendent Hazel Bauman. “We absolutely can’t have kids bringing knives to school.”
