Alaska-based investors buy State Line Speedway

A group of investors based in Alaska has purchased State Line Speedway, the track’s manager said today. The new owner is Competitive Edge LLC, which this week takes over managing the rest of track’s season. The 40-acre, quarter-mile speedway is at 1349 N. Beck Road in Post Falls. For the past 23 years the 40-acre track was owned by brothers Walt and Joe Doellefeld and their wives, Patty and Cindy. The track goes back 37 years, having been started in 1974 by Bill Eberle and later operated by Chuck and Terry Little. They are the parents of NASCAR driver Chad Little. No terms of the sale were disclosed during a press event held in Post Falls. Competitive Edge LLC is based in North Pole, Alaska. The company also owns Post Falls-based Competitive Edge Racing School. The LLC also operates North Pole Speedway outside Fairbanks. The new managers at the Post Falls speedway are Randy and Jeneane Koch. The Kochs have been owners of the Post Falls Competitive Edge Racing School before it was sold, in 2009, to the Alaska group. Nine years ago they moved their racing school from Yakima to Post Falls. Joe Doellefeld will continue working for one year during the ownership transition. He said he and his wife then will relax and enjoy the “passing of the torch to younger owners.” Randy Koch said the plan is to add a few more events to the standard April-through-September track schedule. He added that the track will also add staff, boosting the number of workers at the track from about 32 to 40.
