Examiner approves housing development

A 251-unit housing development with private roads has been approved south of Spokane Valley.

People will be responsible for plowing and maintaining their own streets if they buy homes in Taylor Cottages, southwest of the corner of Park Road and 12th Avenue.

Spokane County Hearing Examiner Michael Dempsey recently approved the 68.1-acre planned-unit development, subject to a warning in land titles that buyers will have no public street service.

However, Dempsey required the development to hook up to the county sewer system.

Taylor Cottages will consist of 199 single-family homes, 28 duplex units and 24 row-house dwellings.

Numerous surrounding property owners opposed the project. Among other things, they complained about wildfire safety, traffic, housing density, narrow streets and lack of sidewalks or street lights.

The project is being developed by South Park Land Development, 2002 S. Park Road, and is owned by Ross Taylor, Ajit Khinda, Hardish Khinda and 509 Partners, which is represented by Terry Sullivan.
