Guitar festival’s competition kicks off today at Eastern

 

Guitar students, teachers and enthusiasts from throughout the region are gathering at Eastern Washington University today through Saturday for the 21st annual Northwest Guitar Festival.

The festival, held at rotating cities in the Pacific Northwest and Canada, includes a variety of master classes, workshops, recitals, networking socials and solo competition events at EWU’s campuses in Cheney and downtown Spokane.

Competition begins with semifinal rounds today at 1 p.m., with finals scheduled Saturday at 4 p.m.

Evening concerts will feature James Reid, University of Idaho, tonight at 8; Michael LeFevre, Seattle, Friday at 8 p.m.; and Marc Teicholz, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Tuition for the entire festival is $135, which includes admission to all events. The daily fee is $55 and admission to any single event is $15, at the door.
