Tax burden unbalanced

Regarding “Budget requires bigger blade” (Letters, April 5), Mr. Barnes simply restates Fox News talking points. The truth of the matter is that until major corporations begin paying taxes on the billions in profits they enjoy, and until other generous corporate loopholes that return additional billions to them are eliminated, there should be a reluctance to move forward on deficit-related expense reductions that affect only the working class and retirees.

In fact, as we are witnessing now, GOP-controlled states such as Wisconsin, Florida, New Jersey, Ohio and Michigan are in the process of cutting corporate taxes even further at the expense of teachers, firefighters, law enforcement and other essential public services to pay for these corporate tax cuts. Let’s make sure that everyone is paying their fair share when discussing deficit reduction.
