In brief: Cancer Society seeks volunteers

NORTH HILL – The American Cancer Society’s Discovery Shop, 905 W. Garland Ave., needs volunteers. Volunteers are needed for the sales floor and back room preparation of men’s and women’s clothing, linens, household goods, dishes and collectibles.

Grange hosts potluck, baked potato bar

GREEN BLUFF – The Green Bluff Grange, 9809 Green Bluff Road, will host its annual spring dinner and scholarship fundraiser Saturday. The event is sponsored by the Green Bluff Grange Home Economics Club.

The potluck will begin at 6 p.m. with a silent auction. Raffle tickets will be sold for a quilt made by the club. Tickets are $1 each and proceeds will fund scholarships awarded by the club. For more information, call Paula Nelson at (509) 238-4803.

Free dump passes for neighborhood

NORTHWEST – The Northwest Neighborhood Association will distribute 100 free dump passes for residents at its meeting next Thursday at 7 p.m. at Browne Elementary School, 5102 N. Driscoll Blvd. The northwest neighborhood covers the area west of Ash Street to the Spokane River, bound by Belt Street and Indiana Avenue, on the south, Francis Avenue on the north to Fairview Avenue, including Westgate and Northwest Terrace.

A driver’s license or a utility bill is required to verify residence in the Northwest neighborhood.

Dump passes will be issued on a first come, first served basis – 100 are available. Passes are good for approximately two weeks after issue.

Library closed for re-carpeting

CHENEY – The Spokane County Library District’s Cheney Branch, 610 First St., will be closed for re-carpeting Monday through April 23. Books and other library items may be returned through the book drop while it is closed.

‘Willy Wonka’ staged in Cheney

CHENEY – The Special Recreation Department at Cheney Park and Recreation will perform Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka” on Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cheney Middle School, 2716 N. Sixth St.

Tickets are $5 per person and may be purchased in advance or at the door.
