Agreed The Arena Football League and commissioner Jerry B. Kurz reached an agreement on a multiyear extension. The agreement puts Kurz at the helm of the AFL through the 2013 season.

Awarded A police union in White Plains, N.Y., gave its Officer of the Year award to Officer Aaron Hess, the policeman who shot and killed a college football player during a disturbance in the New York City suburbs. Parents of the student, 20-year-old Danroy Henry Jr., called the award insensitive and arrogant.

Arrested Police arrested Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt in Bayonne, N.J., after an officer reported seeing him speeding. Bayonne Police Chief Robert Kubert said Britt faces charges of eluding the officer, hindering apprehension and obstructing governmental function.

Filed Valet Rock Feller Sorel filed a lawsuit against Gloria James, the mother of Miami Heat star LeBron James, seeking financial damages after claiming she verbally abused and assaulted him while he was working at a Miami Beach hotel on April 7. Sorel is seeking more than $15,000 in damages, claiming he suffered among other things “emotional distress, humiliation, mental anguish (and) loss of capacity for enjoyment of life.”

Suspended Detroit Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva was suspended for five games without pay by the NBA for initiating an on-court altercation with Cleveland’s Ryan Hollins, trying to get at the Cavaliers’ bench and twice attempting to enter their locker room.

Banned Trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. has been denied a license to race in Kentucky in 2011. Kentucky Horse Racing Commission executive director Lisa Underwood said the denial was based on Dutrow’s “consistent disregard for the rules of racing.”

Declared Florida State junior Chris Singleton said he’ll forego his final year of collegiate eligibility to enter the NBA draft.

Injured U.S. Olympic volleyball player Stacy Sykora was injured when a bus carrying her Brazilian team crashed on its way to a match in Sao Paulo.
