The Premier Home Improvement Show opens today at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center.

Katherine Morgan, spokeswoman for the Spokane Home Builders Association, said there will be more than 200 exhibitors at the 12th annual event, which is sponsored by Pro-Build.

For the third year, the Spokane Remodelers Council will conduct a “Where Does Your Home Hurt” contest, with a free room makeover going to the winner. Nominations can be made at the show or on its website, www.SpokanesPremierShow.com.

Morgan said the remodelers consider the stories explaining the need and scope of the project, select five for site visits, and identify one that matches donations of labor and materials.

The event will include a landscape corner with professional demonstrations, a “Princess Castle Playhouse” built for Wishing Star, and pet adoptions from the Spokane Humane Society.

Avista Utilities will give away compact fluorescent light bulbs, and free recyclable cloth grocery bags will be distributed by EnergyStar and Built Green.
