Spokane police investigate morning shooting

Levi W. Corker, 20
Police are looking for a gunman after a 20-year-old man was shot in the chest this morning in northeast Spokane. Levi W. Corker was taken to a hospital for surgery after the shooting at 6311 N. Altamont St., where he had been staying on the couch in an apartment. His condition is not available. Police found a bag of suspected marijuana in the bushes west of the apartment door, according to a search warrant. A next door neighborhood told police he awoke about 2:30 a.m. to Corker banging on the door. He said he’d been shot by a man in a black and white coat. Three witnesses at the apartment where Corker was staying said they were sleeping in a back bedroom when Corker walked in saying “front door’s open, there might be someone in the house,” according to the warrant. “They said that about a minute and a half later, they heard one gunshot and that Corker came back to the room saying, I’m shot, I’m shot,” and ran next door. Police saw what appeared to be a single bullet hole in the north wall of the living room. Police searched the apartment about 7:15 a.m. but did not seize any items.
