Snow showers possible again today

The plunge back into wintry weather is likely to continue today with more showers showing up by this afternoon across the Inland Northwest. Spokane on Monday set a daily snowfall record with 0.5 inches falling at Spokane International Airport. The previous record was a trace amount in 2005. Rain, snow and small hail are likely later today across North Idaho and extreme Eastern Washington as an upper level low pressure area guides cold air into the region from the British Columbia coast. Periods of heavy snow showers are possible again today after snow on Monday blanketed the ground and turned trees white. Heavy frost this morning left a coating of winter on the ground and on road surfaces. Vehicles left outdoors had to have their windshields and windows scraped. High temperatures in Spokane today should reach the upper 40s with another chilly low of 26 expected tonight. Improving conditions are likely Wednesday before a new round of precipitation arrives for Thursday. Friday and Saturday are likely to be the nicest days of the week, and Saturday could bring the first day of 60-degree-plus temperatures. The high is forecasted at 61 in Spokane. That would set a record for the latest day with a temperature of at least 60. The current record is April 22. A chance of precipitation returns for Easter Sunday. At 7 a.m. today, it was 28 at Spokane International Airport, 29 at Felts Field, 30 in Coeur d’Alene, 28 in Deer Park and 26 in Pullman.
