Region to get a break in showers today

The Inland Northwest is getting a break today from this spring’s onslaught of cool showery weather, but it will only last until tonight. A pair of low pressure systems is bearing down on the region and should arrive sometime overnight, bringing another round of showers of rain, snow and snow pellets known as graupel. For today, the National Weather Service is calling for a high of 54. This morning’s sunshine should be covered by clouds as the day wears on. Tonight, the snow level drops to 2,200 feet and showers are possible after 11 p.m. A moist low pressure system in Oregon this morning is moving northward and will combine with a cold upper-level low dropping southeastward from the British Columbia coastline. Rain or snow in the morning on Thursday should switch to all rain after 11 a.m. A high of only 47 is expected in Spokane with a high of 53 on Friday. Lows tonight through Friday night should be in the 30s. Another brief break in the unsettled April weather arrives on Friday and Saturday. A high of 59 is forecast for Saturday. Spokane appears likely to set a record for the latest 60-degree-plus day of the season even if it warms up a little more than expected on Saturday. The current record for the latest 60-degree day is April 22. At 7 a.m., it was 30 at Spokane International Airport, 31 at Felts Field, 28 in Coeur d’Alene, 31 in Deer Park and 34 in Pullman.
