In brief: Free food will be offered at East Valley Baptist


TRENTWOOD – East Valley Baptist Church, 14516 E. Wellesley Ave., and Second Harvest Inland Northwest Food Bank will be handing out food at the Food Pantry at the church on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Free produce and perishable products for families in need of food assistance will be available, and no appointment or documentation is necessary. Participants must be present to receive their food. Boxes will be needed to carry food.

Local celebrities will dance for votes in theater benefit

RIVERSIDE – Christian Youth Theater-Spokane will host the fourth annual “Dancing with the Celebrities” on April 30 at the Bing Crosby Theater, 901 W. Sprague Ave., at 7 p.m.

Local celebrities will be paired with professional dance instructors for the performance to benefit CYT-Spokane. Audience members will vote for their favorite celebrity by donating toward the celebrity’s final count. Each dollar counts as one vote. There will also be student performances, wine and refreshments to purchase and an auction.

Participating celebrities this year include: Molly Allen, 92.9 KZZU; Bill Kelly, KHQ meteorologist; Rick Steltenpohl, Hoopfest; Ken Sax, Keller-Williams Realty & Shock Fox; Capt. Frank Scalise, Spokane Police Department; Capt. Dan Garner, Spokane District 9 Fire Department; Sheila Geraghty, Dancing with the Celebrities 2010 champion, Salvation Army; Ali Vincent, NBC’s first female Biggest Loser; and Linda Bruseth, holistic physical therapist. Spokane Mayor Mary Verner will be the award presenter.

Document shredding will be offered free Friday

SPOKANE VALLEY – Celebrate Earth Day and the end of tax season by shredding and recycling unwanted documents and papers at Intermountain Community Bank’s Spring Shred Day on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free event will be held at the ICB Spokane Valley Branch, 5211 E. Sprague Ave. (right in front of Costco).

Intermountain is partnering with DeVries Business Services to dispose of documents, bills and floppy disks safely. Intermountain customers and the public can bring up to two boxes of materials, which will be shredded and recycled.
