Casino beats tumbleweeds

Airway Heights equals Vegas. Really?

This ridiculous embellishment of the Spokane Tribe’s desire to build a top-class facility on land that was once theirs needs to be debunked for what it is. It’s a cynical attempt by a few to foist their ideological beliefs and preserve their monopolistic position on gaming. If they succeed in misleading the government and our neighbors, the 145 acres of the Spokane Tribe’s aboriginal land will continue to produce only tumbleweeds.

But what about the citizens and businesses of Airway Heights? Why don’t we hear from them? When will The Spokesman-Review drive west of Hayford Road and investigate the needs and desires of the entire community? There are hundreds of individuals and a substantial number of businesses large and small on U.S. 2 that support the Spokane Tribe’s plan to bring jobs and much-needed revenue to the city and county. The time is now to speak up and be heard.
