Freeman four go to nationals
The Freeman High School Future Business Leaders of America attended the 2011 State Leadership Conference in Spokane April 7-9.
In order to attend this conference, the students must have placed in the top five at their regional competition in February.
Students from Freeman who attended are: seniors Chelsa Ayers, Danica Cramer, Chelsea Grady, Tyler Hjaltalin, Christina Ramelow and Tucker Rudy; juniors Danny Cossey, Cody Dickinson, Josiah Lara, Gregory Ruby and Hanna Weathers; sophomores Ben Carasco and Eric Hjaltalin; and freshmen Austin Carpenter, Grace Rudy and Samantha Strothman.
Tucker Rudy won the state championship in marketing; Cramer and Lara took second place in desktop publishing; Dickinson was third place in computer problem solving; Dickinson and Ruby took third place in computer game and simulation programming; Ayers won third place in impromptu speaking; Grady and Ramelow took fifth place in desktop publishing; and Cossey and Weathers took fifth place with their community service project.
Rudy, Cramer, Lara and Dickinson will compete in the National FBLA Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla., in June.
Their adviser is Scott Moore.
West Valley Band medals at festival
Band students at West Valley High School recently attended the Columbia Basin College Band Festival.
The wind ensemble won a gold medal for its performance, the jazz band took home an excellent rating and Connor Henry won the Outstanding Soloist Award for his alto saxophone performance in jazz band.
The West Valley Band director is Jim Louks.
CdA principal to lead Freeman schools
Randy Russell, principal at Coeur d’Alene High School, has been named the new superintendent of Freeman School District.
Russell will replace Superintendent Sergio Hernandez, who will retire on June 30.
Spaghetti feed, auction to help U-Hi all-nighter
The University High School Senior All-Nighter Committee will present a Bloomsday-eve Carbo Loading Spaghetti Feed and Silent Auction April 30 from 5 to 8 p.m.
The event will be held in the commons of U-Hi, 12420 E. 32nd Ave.
