Royalty, commoners on wedding list

LONDON – Crowned heads, ex-girlfriends, the local postman and celebrities are among the 1,800 guests invited to the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in London next week.

The official guest list for the wedding of William and Kate on Friday has not been published. However, the Sun newspaper published extracts from what it said was the official list.

It included a number of European monarchs as well as the king of Bhutan, the king and queen of Malaysia, the crown prince of Dubai, the crown prince of Bahrain, the Aga Khan and the sultan of Brunei.

The list of celebrities is headed by David and Victoria Beckham, singer Elton John and his partner, David Furnish, as well as comedian Rowan Atkinson, better known as “Mr. Bean,” according to the Sun.

Film director Guy Ritchie, the ex-husband of Madonna, is also on the list. A surprise invitee is Chelsy Davy, the on-off girlfriend of Prince Harry, the younger brother of the groom.

Those asked by the Middleton family include their yoga teacher, the local butcher, postman and landlord of Kate’s favorite pub in the village of Bucklebury, where she grew up.

Several ex-girlfriends of the groom also appear on the list.

Kate, 29, will not promise to “obey” her future husband in the wedding vows , a report in the Daily Mirror said Friday.

Middleton would follow the example of the late Princess Diana – and thousands of other modern brides – by omitting the word, promising instead to “love, comfort, honour and keep” the prince.
