NIC guard picks Texas-San Antonio

Michael Hale III, a 5-foot-10 sophomore point guard at North Idaho College, has committed to play basketball at Texas-San Antonio.

Hale led the Cardinals in scoring (17.9 ppg) and is a two-time second-team All-American.

College golf

Community Colleges of Spokane and Skagit Valley split titles in the Big Foot Invitational that ended Monday.

The CCS women, led by Alexa Bell (156) and Alexa David (159), 2 and 3 behind Walla Walla’s Dona Dunovant (152) beat Skagit 485-499.

Skagit had men’s medalist Jeff Neely (138) and the team win, 589-597 over CCS, whose Alex Pounds was second at 141.

• Idaho juniors Kayla Mortellaro, the 10th ranked amateur in the world and two-time WAC golfer of the year, and Teo Poplawski were selected to the NCAA West Region women’s tournament hosted by 13th seeded Washington on May 5-7 in Auburn, Wash.

College baseball

Gonzaga (vs. Washington) and Washington State (vs. BYU) had home games rained out Monday.

GU and Washington will play a single game today at 1 p.m. WSU and BYU will play a doubleheader at 2.
