Police look into prescription fraud

The Liberty Lake Police Department was kept busy handling calls during the week of April 18-25.

A business in the 22900 block of East Appleway reported the morning of April 21 that a man came in complaining of tooth pain and asking for pain medication. He was given some but then said he had to go out to his car to get his wallet, said Police Chief Brian Asmus. The man never returned but police were given the man’s name and vehicle description. The man was identified as a resident of Osburn, Idaho, and an investigation is ongoing, Asmus said.

A police officer spotted a truck parked in the middle of the road with no lights on at Country Vista Road and Broadway Avenue at 3:30 a.m. on April 22. The officer saw two people walking away and stopped them. They said they had run out of gas and didn’t know how to turn on the emergency blinkers on the borrowed truck, Asmus said.

The officer could smell the odor of marijuana on one person and when asked about it the man admitted having marijuana, a smoking device and an expandable baton, Asmus said. The 27-year-old Moses Lake resident was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a dangerous weapon. The second man, a 31-year-old Moses Lake resident, was arrested on a warrant for escape.

A burglary alarm sounded at Allsport on Broadway at 11 p.m. on April 22. A man was found in the area when officers arrived and was questioned. A check of video surveillance footage showed that he was the person who had broken into the business and some stolen property was recovered, Asmus said. Spokane resident Christopher W. Alldritt, 23, was arrested on charges of felony second-degree burglary, third-degree theft and third-degree possession of stolen property.

A man who had been reported as missing was discovered intoxicated and passed out in the lobby of the Peppertree Hotel at 4 a.m. on April 23. He was taken to the hospital and the missing persons report was canceled, Asmus said.

There also were two arrests for driving with a suspended license during the week. Officers handed out three citations for failure to show proof of liability insurance, four for defective muffler and two for speeding. Additional citations were given for license and plates required and speeding in a construction zone.
