Polar bear cub rescued from Alaska oil field

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Wanted: A zoo for a polar bear cub that was rescued from an Alaska oil field. Officials from the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage are helping to escort the 17-pound cub from the North Slope. Zoo office manager Heather Schaad says the cub will stay there until a home is found. The cub was captured Friday at the Alpine oil field and is being fed a commercial puppy milk replacement. Rosa Meehan, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service marine mammals manager in Alaska, says the cub was first spotted after emerging from its den with its mother and a sibling seven weeks ago. The cub was spotted again this week, but it was alone, possibly orphaned.
