Burn victims airlifted to Seattle hospital

From Staff Reports

Two people were badly burned Friday afternoon when a grease fire broke out in their small wood-frame home in Spokane.

Both were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The Spokane Fire Department responded to the fire about 12:30 p.m. The caller who reported the fire was not at the address of the incident, however, and told a dispatcher the incident was on East Sharp, when it was actually on West Sharp. Firefighters were redirected to 514 W. Sharp Ave. and quickly extinguished the fire and started treating the critical injuries sustained by the burn victims.

Despite the injuries, investigators said the fire did not damage the home. Investigators determined that “an unintentional flammable liquid flash fire” had occurred in the kitchen.
