One injured at Galena Mine in North Idaho

A miner was hospitalized Tuesday after falling down a chute at the Galena Mine in Silverton, Idaho, according to mining officials. The man, whose name has not been released, appears to have a broken ankle and a laceration above his temple, said Amy Louviere with the Mine Safety and Health Administration. He apparently was trying to put material up to shore up the roof when he tripped and fell down the chute and landed in the muck at the bottom, Louviere said. The miner was alert when he was pulled out of the chute and transported to a hospital. He is a contract miner who was working for the United Mine Service at the Galena Mine, which is owned by the U.S. Silver Corporation.
