The Spokesman-Review
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Jonathon Berti’s two-out, run-scoring single to center field in the seventh inning Friday afternoon gave the Vancouver Canadian a 4-3 win over the Spokane Indians at Nat Bailey Stadium. The outcome gave Vancouver a 3-1 lead in the Northwest League series that ends tonight. Both teams have 4-6 records in the second half of the NWL season. Yeico Aponte started the rally with a two-out single to left against Phil Klein. Aponte stole second base and scored on Berti’s hit. Vancouver relievers Philip Brua (5-0) and Drew Permison held Spokane in check during the eighth and ninth. Permison earned his 10th save. The Canadians took a 3-0 lead in the fourth, capped by Chris Schaeffer’s RBI double to left. Spokane bounced back with three in its fifth. Yefry Castillo led off and reached on second baseman Berti’s error. Nick Vickerson singled Castillo to second base, and Drew Robinson followed with his third homer of the season, a three-run shot to right. Brua escaped some trouble in the seventh after allowing Ruben Sierra’s leadoff double to right. Klein (1-1), Spokane’s second pitcher, was tagged with the loss after allowing three hits and one earned run in three innings. Indians starter Santo Perez struck out eight in four scoreless innings.
