Stop dreaming, start leading

What dreams are made of …

All of his life, Mr. John Boehner was dreaming of becoming United States speaker of the House of Representatives. He achieved it. But now, during the turmoil surrounding the debt ceiling, his refusal to accept the president’s phone calls demonstrated not only disrespect toward Mr. Obama and toward the office of the presidency, but also toward the prestige of the office of the speaker. The protocol suggests to the contrary. The president could have said “Hell, no!” Instead, he continued to invite Mr. Boehner for further talks.

The United States of America was built upon consensus, and the continued vitality of both our democracy and of our security rests on fair and just compromise.

Mr. Boehner! We are at a dangerous impasse in our nation’s history, and now is the time to put your dreams into action. Prove to yourself and to all of America that you are indeed a leader and not a dreamer.
