Brower is ready

School board races are often under the radar screen with many high profile city and county races, but nothing is more important than electing competent leadership to direct the education of our children. Over the last several decades our public schools have never been more challenged: significant budget reductions, growing poverty among school-aged children, intrusive regulations and significant demands for new and more challenging standards to prepare students for a competitive, technical and global workplace.

Voters should think carefully about this important election. After studying the school board candidates, I endorse Deanna Brower. In my opinion, she brings experience as an educator, proven commitment as an involved parent and impressive youth volunteer work to this important leadership position. She has a passion for excellence and a commitment to an appropriate education for all children - critical characteristics of an effective board member.

I am confident she will work collaboratively with her colleagues in building the board leadership team that will support and challenge our children, navigate negative budget times and hold the system accountable for high standards and well educated and prepared graduates.

I urge you to elect Deana Brower to the Spokane Public Schools board of directors.
