Man who threatened congressman sentenced
SEATTLE — A California man with a multimillion-dollar trust fund has been sentenced to eight months in prison for threatening U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott, and he’ll have to pay the cost of his own incarceration.
Charles Turner Habermann, of Palm Springs, called the Seattle Democrat’s office last December, identified himself by name and telephone number, and proceeded to leave two obscene, four-minute-long messages threatening to kill him.
U.S. District Judge James Robart sentenced him Friday, three months after the 33-year-old pleaded guilty. He fined Habermann more than $54,000.
Habermann has said he was drunk when he made the calls and never meant to hurt anyone. His attorney wrote in a sentencing memo that he has a long history of drug abuse and that his parents were wealthy but divorced when he was young and never showed him love or encouragement.

Well, maybe he can find him some love in jail.
What a rich idiot; enough money to live how he wants and maybe even do some good in the world but all he chooses to do is get blotto and threaten legislators…
*sigh*

Let’s see, a rich kid who most likely never had to hold a job in his life or accept any responsibility for anything he did. A rich kid who probably heaped a lot of guilt on his parents for getting divorced and they gave in to his every demand. And now the rich kid blames drugs and his upbringing for making two calls to McDermott’s number. Wow what a crock. I wonder who he will blame for his bad behavior in jail. I think mis had it right it could be where he finds the love he missed out on as a kid.
By the way, if he has to pay for his incarceration does he get to pick out his cell and order room service???

Strange, you never hear about a deranged liberal threatening a conservative politician. Remember the Republican wielding the meat cleaver at the Patty Murray rally here in Spokane? Every recent act of violence or threat of violence, here in the US or around the world, stems from an irrational “conservative” belief system.
Not a bad plan Republicans. Many Americans will politically knuckle under to those who seem the most deranged and violent - thinking they won’t get hurt that way. Unfortunately, it seldom works out in the end.
