Summer warmth continues into weekend

Summer weather is expected through Saturday, but another low-pressure system from Alaska should cool temperatures early next week. Highs today are forecast to rise to 87 degrees in downtown Spokane and 86 in Coeur d’Alene under sunny skies. Saturday’s highs should be a couple degrees warmer, with 89 expected in Spokane. The sunny weather continues on Sunday, but temperatures drop back to about 80 as winds increase as a result of a weather change. Gusts to 20 mph are possible as a new low-pressure system drops southward. The arrival of cooler air is expected sometime Sunday night, along with a chance of showers. As a result, highs on Monday should drop to the lower 70s. The chance of showers is 20 percent in Spokane. Lows will stay in the 50s and may hit the lower 50s by Monday night. The low-pressure system is expected to move out of the Gulf of Alaska across British Columbia, repeating a pattern that has dominated the weather since spring. The normal high for today is 85 degrees. At 7 a.m., it was 59 degrees at Spokane International Airport, 56 at Felts Field, 54 in Coeur d’Alene and 51 in Deer Park.
