Woman’s body found in east Spokane

A woman’s body was found in an industrial part of Spokane this afternoon and police are calling the circumstances surrounding her death “very, very suspicious.” It appears she died from severe trauma to the head and neck, said Officer Tim Moses with the Spokane Police Department, and police are investigating the death as a homicide. The body was found behind an East Riverside Avenue warehouse west of North Ralph Street. Moses said the woman’s age and identity and when she died were still unknown. The body was found at 1:30 p.m. today by a man working in the area. He was taking out some trash when he discovered the body, Moses said. Investigators lifted some prints from the crime scene, he said. They will begin looking through missing persons reports in an attempt to figure out who the woman is. “The investigation is in its infancy,” he said. “Identifying her is going to be the biggest hurdle right now.”
