In brief: Police investigate possible homicide

Spokane police launched a homicide investigation Saturday after a woman’s body was found in an industrial part of Spokane.

Police are calling the circumstances surrounding her death “very, very suspicious.”

It appears she died from severe trauma to the head and neck, said Officer Tim Moses of the Spokane Police Department.

The body was found behind an East Riverside Avenue warehouse west of North Ralph Street.

Moses said the woman’s age and identity and when she died were unknown.

The body was found at 1:30 p.m. by a man working in the area. He was taking out trash when he discovered the body, Moses said.

Investigators lifted prints from the crime scene, he said. They will begin looking through missing persons reports in an attempt to identify the victim.

Man, 30, stabbed in northeast Spokane

Spokane police are looking for a man who stabbed another man in the back and then fled.

About 8:41 p.m. Friday, Spokane police responded to the 4800 block of North Lacey on a report of a stabbing, according to a Spokane Police Department news release. Officers found the victim, a 30-year-old Spokane man, with a single stab wound to the back. He suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

Police said the assailant fled on foot, and a K-9 team unsuccessfully attempted to track him.

The victim told police he met the man Friday and that the two had been walking around northeast Spokane all day. The victim said he and the man got in an argument, and the man stabbed him.

He is described as a white male, 25 to 30 years old, with a shaved head or very short hair and crooked or missing teeth. His name might be Steve or Steven.

Anyone with information regarding the incident should call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
