Park survey slanted

The Park Board is asking for public input (July 30, Spokesman-Review) on budget priorities. Its website survey gives you $128 to spend on operations and a list of 14 items.

It was a typical bureaucratic survey; they don’t put everything up for review. There is $75 that is a fixed overhead cost over and above the $128 you can spend. I don’t suppose that pay and benefits of the people that made the survey are included in that fixed cost. I believe supervision, and even some hourly employees, should be willing to take a cut in their salaries and benefits if they’re truly concerned about the problem.

They list a cost of mowing and care as a fixed cost of $22. Perhaps mowing less frequently might save a few dollars.

It’s obvious from the survey they want to float a bond which, of course, the taxpayers would be stuck with for a number of years. The board does not really want to work hard at getting a working budget; they just want to make the taxpayers pick up the tab for their inability to operate in a responsible manner.
