30-acre fire burning in south Spokane County

Fire crews have a wildfire burning near Long Road in south Spokane County at the Whitman County line well in hand. Guy Gifford, a forester with the state Department of Natural Resources, said the fire burned 50 to 100 acres of grass and sage and some pine timberland. He said the fire is trailed and “not going anywhere under current conditions.” He expected that fire crews would be mopping up Thursday. The fire threatened some homes in the area, but none were damaged. The cause remains under investigation. Seven DNR engines, two Turnbull Wildlife Refuge engines, one Bureau of Land Management engine and all the Fire District 3 resources responded.
