Hydroplanes back, featuring exhibition on Lake CdA

From Staff Reports

Hydroplanes will return to North Idaho this weekend for several events.

On Thursday, both unlimited and limited hydros will be on display at Red Lion Templin’s Hotel on the River in Post Falls.

The event, which also features live music and a buffet, begins at 4 p.m. Vintage unlimited boats on display will include the Miss Wahoo, Miss Burien and Oh Boy Oberto; kids can sit in the cockpits and have their photos taken. Call (208) 773-1611 for information.

On Friday, the Eagles Club in Coeur d’Alene will host a banquet to benefit the Museum of North Idaho. The event, which starts at 5 p.m., includes a raffle drawing for a ride in a vintage unlimited hydro on Lake Coeur d’Alene. For information, call Dorothy Dahlgren at (208) 664-3448 or Doug Miller at (208) 691-1612.

On Saturday and Sunday, the 2011 Diamond Cup Regatta will be held on Lake Coeur d’Alene, with an exhibition featuring the four unlimited hydros and rides for raffle winners. The original three-mile Diamond Cup course is in front of City Beach, and the boats can be viewed from there, from Tubbs Hill or from Independence Point, Miller said. The boats will be running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
