Human remains found near Coeur d’Alene River

Kootenai County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating human remains found on a vacant piece of land near the Coeur d’Alene River.

Deputies responded Saturday about 10:45 a.m. to an area off Highway 3, just south of the community of Rose Lake where a pair of campers found the skeletal remains of a human body, a Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department news release said.

“The body appears to have been there for some time,” Lt. Stu Miller said in the news release.

The age and gender of the body, as well as the cause of death, are unknown.

Detectives spent Saturday processing the scene and collecting the remains. The case remains under investigation and information will be released as it becomes available, the news release said.
