Retired Hockey player Chris Drury retired from the NHL after 12 seasons, unable to hook up with a new team after the New York Rangers bought out the final year of their captain’s contract in June.

• University of Connecticut Athletic Director Jeff Hathaway announces he is retiring after signing an agreement to leave the school.

Arrested U.S. sprinter Jeremy Dodson was arrested on suspicion of identity theft just days before leaving for world championships in Daegu, South Korea. He was arrested and released after posting a $10,000 bond. His next court hearing is Aug. 26.

Dismissed The drug case against former Oklahoma State basketball coach Sean Sutton has been dismissed by a judge and his record has been expunged. Sutton was arrested in February 2010 after he picked up a shipment under another person’s name that included about 40 pills, including the anti-anxiety drug clonazepam and two forms of the stimulant adderall.

Injured Two-time defending U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters will not go for three in a row this year because of a stomach muscle injury.

Alleged Police are investigating allegations that LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson and unidentified teammates were involved in a fight outside a Baton Rouge, La., bar. Baton Rouge Police Sgt. Donald Stone said witnesses claimed Jefferson and other players were involved in a fight in the parking lot outside Shady’s bar around 2 a.m.

Sought The Texas Supreme Court said it wants more information in Mike Leach’s lawsuit against Texas Tech. In 2009, the university fired Leach two days after suspending him amid allegations of mistreating a player.

Proposed A group headed by former San Jose Sharks president and CEO Greg Jamison is one of two bidders for the Phoenix Coyotes. Glendale, Ariz., spokeswoman Julie Frisoni confirmed Jamison was one of the bidders and that no bonds would be sold as part of any proposed deals.

Charged Two men have been charged in an incident during a Sporting Kansas City soccer match in which Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Neilsen was hit in the face with a bobblehead doll thrown from the stands.
