Pavillion offers Shakespeare

Troupe stages ‘Much Ado About Nothing’

A free performance of “Much Ado About Nothing” by Montana Shakespeare in the Parks will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Pavillion Park. Pictured are Kalen Harriman as Beatrice, and Sara Mountjoy-Pepka as Hero.

The Montana Shakespeare in the Parks touring company will perform the celebrated playwright’s comedy “Much Ado About Nothing” on Wednesday in Liberty Lake’s Pavillion Park at 6 p.m. Shakespeare fans will have an opportunity to enjoy a stage combat demonstration, put on by company members, from 4:30 to 5.

The farce about the two pairs of lovers, Benedick and Beatrice and Claudio and Hero, is part of the group’s 39th season. By the end of the summer, the theater troupe will have performed approximately 75 productions throughout Montana, Idaho, North Dakota, Wyoming and Washington, where the plays are often part of summer festivals and traditions in the communities they visit. The company has also performed “The Merchant of Venice” this summer.

Montana Shakespeare in the Parks is part of an outreach program of Montana State University’s College of Arts and Architecture. The performances are supported by grants and corporate sponsorships, along with funds given by individual donors to keep the plays free and available to everyone in the touring area.

Wednesday’s performance is part of the Friends of Pavillion Park Summer Festival series. The event is free and open to the public. Pizza, popcorn, cookies, soft drinks and water will be available for purchase. In the event of rain, the performance will be held at the Meadowwood Technology Campus.
