Charged Police said late Friday that former NBA player Javaris Crittenton, who was once suspended by the league over guns in the locker room, has been charged with murder after a woman was shot on an Atlanta street. Police spokesman Carlos Campos said police have secured a murder warrant for the arrest of Crittenton, who played at Georgia Tech, in connection with the shooting death of 22-year-old Jullian Jones on Aug. 19.

• Tight end Kavario Middleton, who transferred to Montana after being dismissed from the University of Washington, faces a drunken driving charge in Seattle. His arraignment is set for Sept. 3, the day Montana is scheduled to open its 2011 football season at Tennessee.

Acquired The Seattle Sounders FC added American forward Sammy Ochoa through the Major League Soccer allocation process. Ochoa was acquired after Seattle traded a 2012 third-round MLS SuperDraft pick to Chicago to move up in the allocation process.

Signed The San Jose Sharks signed forward Logan Couture to a two-year, $5.75 million contract extension through the 2013-14 season. Couture was scheduled to become a restricted free agent following the upcoming season.

Tweeted Top basketball prospect Andre Drummond, a 6-foot-11 center from Middletown, Conn., who was expected to attend prep school this year, has instead said he will play for defending national-champion Connecticut.

Declared Michigan State prospect Dwaun Anderson chose not to enroll this fall and won’t be on the basketball team this season. Anderson says in a statement he wants to get his personal issues relating to the death of his mother in order before moving on to the next stage of his life.

Suspended NCAA all-purpose yardage record-holder Damaris Johnson was suspended indefinitely by Tulsa after he was questioned by police following his girlfriend’s arrest on an embezzlement complaint in Tulsa, Okla.

Granted A judge in Castle Rock, Colo., granted Denver Broncos cornerback Perrish Cox more time to review a statement he gave to police investigating sex assault allegations against him.
