In brief: Like it hot? Today will be scorcher

The hottest temperature of the year is expected today in advance of cooler weather starting this week.

The National Weather Service is calling for a high of 95 in downtown Spokane and 96 in Coeur d’Alene.

Saturday’s high of 93 at Spokane International Airport ranked as the hottest day of the year so far.

Temperature records are not likely to be set today, forecasters said. The record high for Aug. 28 is 99, set in 1929.

Cooler air is forecast to move into the region starting Tuesday. Highs will be in the upper 80s on Monday, dropping to the lower 80s on Tuesday and the 70s by Wednesday.

Lows will go from the lower 60s to the 50s on Monday and Tuesday to the upper 40s by Wednesday night.

Car hits CdA man on Plummer street

A Coeur d’Alene man was in serious condition Saturday after he was struck by a car while walking in Plummer, Idaho.

Richard L. Seyler, 59, was taken to Kootenai Medical Center following the accident shortly after 2 a.m., according to Idaho State Police.

He was walking along C Street in Plummer, which is also state Highway 5, when an eastbound Chrysler 300 driven by Justin E. Hall, 28, of Plummer, struck him, police said.
