Homes threatened by wildfire near Omak, Wash.

Associated Press
About 20 homes are threatened by a fire burning 5 miles west of Omak in north-central Washington. Residents in five homes have been told they may have to leave if the fire grows. The fire has burned 1,000 acres. About 100 firefighters, two helicopters and two air tankers are assigned to the blaze. No structures have been lost and no injuries have been reported. The cause is under investigation. In south-central Washington, state Highway 14 near Wishram has reopened to traffic after being closed due to a wildfire that has grown to 3,000 acres and is 40 percent contained. In southeast Washington, about 175 firefighters are working on a complex of fires started by lightning near Pomeroy. Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal Dan Johnson says the complex is 10 percent contained.
