South Side resident attacked in home invasion
Spokane police are searching for two assailants who invaded a South Hill home this morning and injured a man living there with a knife and baseball bat.
Circumstances of the attack about 5:15 a.m. were not clear.
Officer Teresa Fuller, police spokeswoman, said the man was sleeping in the home of his girlfriend in the 3800 block of East Bellerive Lane when he was confronted by two masked men.
He was stabbed twice and struck with the bat. The knife wounds were superficial, but he suffered a possible broken leg from being hit by the baseball bat, Fuller said. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
An undislosed amount of money was taken, Fuller said.
The exclusive Greystone neighborhood just east of Freya Street is lined with fine homes on larger lots with well manicured yards.
“Something like this doesn’t typically happen in a neighborhood like this,” Fuller said.
Police believe the attack is an isolated incident. The victim was reportedly cooperating with investigators, who are trying to identify the assailants and a motive for the attack.

Seems to me home invasions in Spokane are becoming more frequent. I hope the city of Spokane is not going to rank in the upper percentage of this crime like our ranking as the 4th worst city in the country for automobile thefts. It appears, there have been some that are not reported and for the most part only those where someone gets hurt. Seems to me the SPD is no threat to these thugs that are committing these horrible crimes..

Almost every single one of these cases is drug related. Just wait until more details come out.

Drugs…Duh.

Seems to me, there is no evidence that home invasions are “becoming more frequent”, Dick. I know that you don’t deal in facts and data - that sort of stuff.
DickAdams on August 30 at 10:51 a.m.
I agree the invasions may mostly be drug related. Not too long ago the SR reported a home invasion where a culprit follow an elderly lady home from a pharmacy where she had picked up her subscription for pain and busted into her home to steal it.

My remarks are not snide, Dick. My remarks are intended to point out that you are making baseless attack comments against whatever is annoying you today, as usual.
If you want to state that home invasions are happening “more often”, may I suggest you produce evidence. Dick. May I also remind you, I am not making baseless unsupported comments, you are. I’m not interested in perfoming research for you, how are you ever going to learn anything that way ?

Simmer down, John and Dick. Seems like there’s a lot of fill-in-the-blanks guessing going on while readers await further info. Also, a lot of people with “make my day” trigger fingers around here.
When did the term “home invasion” come into common use? I don’t remember the term being used 10 or 15 years ago so maybe that’s part of the reason some believe it’s happening more.

If you go on Google map, you can see that this home has a huge backyard with no fence that borders on a street.
It would be easy for someone to come up the backside and break into the house…
Yes, we have a lot of tweakers in this town and they will rob anyone or anything to get their next fix..

I’m sorry, no need to simmer down. I just prefer a few facts with my rants.

This is a handy tool for seeing what is happening around town by area. Facts, it’s what’s for dinner.

Ya John I tried them for the IPSC matches and found them to be untrustworthy. Plus in the linger matches the 1911 tends to run dry after a couple hundred rounds.

LONGER not linger.

Yeah, and just think of all the crimes that don’t even get responded to or investigated…it’s enough to make ya wanna take the “law” into your own hands.

I love how the darkest red spot is centered almost on my place of work and where I have to park my vehicle for 11 hours a day and don’t get out to it until after 10pm.
Of course it’s no surprise, homeless people sleep in the bushes next to the parking lot and the cops have to show up regularly to chase them off. There’s been multiple cars stolen out of the lot in the last 2 months, to the point we have to have security patrolling it on a regular basis. A co-worker had his car break down and he dared to leave it overnight… needless to say the car wasn’t in good shape the next day. One co-worker stumbled across a man urinating while he was walking from his car. Down the street is the Crosswalk shelter for homeless kids, the cops seem to know them all by name because they get called down there so often.
Downtown Spokane is nothing but a nesting spot for the homeless, the drug and alcohol addicted, poor, bored people of Spokane. There’s a reason I never came down here until I got a job here… no one in their right mind would set foot in this neighborhood if they didn’t have to.
The biggest criminals of all seem to be holed up in a former department store on West Spokane Blvd… but the cops never seem to chase them off for some reason! ;)

Teseract…. The area you are talking about is an interesting part of Spokane… Third and Howard, by McDonalds has all sorts of unique young folks especially during school hours… I agree that after dark/nights it is not a safe place to be ( although I have spent many long hours parked behind Central Methodist while working to get meals ready the next day over the past five years). You do not need to be afraid of the “homeless” ones, or the actual CrossWalk residents and students… it is the hangers on…the drug dealers and pimps that are the biggest problem.
Sad to say most of the young people are actually safer on the streets than in their homes.
Keep your head up, and look each and every one you come upon in the eye, and walk with confidence or you could become a victim. Walking in Pairs with a cell phone always visible and turned on is good as well. Take care John
