South Side resident attacked in home invasion

Spokane police are searching for two assailants who invaded a South Hill home this morning and injured a man living there with a knife and baseball bat. Circumstances of the attack about 5:15 a.m. were not clear. Officer Teresa Fuller, police spokeswoman, said the man was sleeping in the home of his girlfriend in the 3800 block of East Bellerive Lane when he was confronted by two masked men. He was stabbed twice and struck with the bat. The knife wounds were superficial, but he suffered a possible broken leg from being hit by the baseball bat, Fuller said. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. An undislosed amount of money was taken, Fuller said. The exclusive Greystone neighborhood just east of Freya Street is lined with fine homes on larger lots with well manicured yards. “Something like this doesn’t typically happen in a neighborhood like this,” Fuller said. Police believe the attack is an isolated incident. The victim was reportedly cooperating with investigators, who are trying to identify the assailants and a motive for the attack.
