Cool weather to exit by holiday weekend

A pool of cool northern air is going to keep Inland Northwest temperatures below normal today and Thursday, but forecasters are calling for a warming trend through the holiday. The upper-level low-pressure area is bringing clouds and showers across the region this morning, and the conditions will persist through tonight. A rain shower was crossing over Spokane about 10 a.m. Highs today may only reach the lower 70s, with 73 expected in downtown Spokane and 71 in Coeur d’Alene. Highs go up by two to three degrees each day on Thursday and Friday before soaring back into the 80s over the weekend. Sunday and Monday should reach the upper 80s. Forecasters said the greatest chance of showers comes this evening as the upper-level winds create a pattern favorable for upward convection in the atmosphere. Tuesday’s high in Spokane was 76 degrees. The normal high is 79. At 7 a.m., it was 48 degrees at Spokane International Airport, 53 at Felts Field, 50 in Coeur d’Alene and 49 in Deer Park.
