Denver ends USU’s long streak at home

LOGAN, Utah – Rob Lewis and Chris Udofia scored 15 points each as future Western Athletic Conference member Denver ran past host Utah State 67-54 Wednesday night, ending the Aggies’ 33-game home winning streak.

Utah State’s home-court winning streak was the third longest in the nation.

Denver will join Utah State in the WAC in July, along with new members Texas-San Antonio and Texas State. Wednesday’s meeting was the 89th time the Aggies and Pioneers have tangled, the fourth-oldest rivalry in Utah State’s history.

Lewis made 6 of 8 shots while Udofia had six rebounds. Brian Stafford also scored 12 for the Pioneers (5-1) on 5-of-9 shooting.

Preston Medlin led Utah State (3-3) with 13 points, while Brockeith Pane added 12 points and Morgan Grim scored 11.

Denver led 34-29 at halftime, and by double figures for most of the second half. The Pioneers pushed the lead to 65-45 with 2:20 to play when Udofia made two free throws followed by a back-door wide-open layup.

Denver shot 52 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range. Chase Hallam made three of his four 3-point tries.
