Some fine shootin’ for Yakima Valley golfer

In the history of the PGA Tour only five golfers have carded an 18-hole round of 59. It’s a rare number, but now the Yakima Valley has one. Chris Williams, a junior at the University of Washington and a native of Moscow, Idaho, shot an 11-under-par 59 from the back tees at SunTides GC on Friday. Closing with a 28 on the back nine, Williams broke the course record by three strokes. The previous record of 62 was shared by Lloyd Harris, Will Curley and Fred Couples. Ranked ninth in the nation among amateurs, Williams recorded three birdies and an eagle on the eighth hole for a 5-under 31 on the front nine. Williams followed with a run of six birdies over seven holes on back. He missed a 5-foot putt for an eagle on the 14th hole. – Yakima Herald-Republic
