Lakeside’s boys beat Medical Lake in 2OT

Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) got defensive in its season-opening win over Medical Lake.

The Eagles held the Cardinals scoreless in the second overtime period Friday night and Lakeside escaped with a 45-42 nonleague win at Medical Lake in both teams’ season opener.

Medical Lake’s Keith Paulson forced overtime with a 3-pointer as time expired in the fourth quarter.

Demetrius Watson had 11 points and nine rebounds to lead Lakeside (1-0). Kendyl Dunn tallied 18 points and 14 rebounds for Medical Lake (0-1).

Lake City 72, North Central 47: Every player on the Timberwolves’ roster scored as Lake City (3-0) breezed past the Indians (0-1) in Coeur d’Alene. Kyle Guice led the way with 16 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks for Lake City. Jamil Foster had a team-high 14 points for North Central.

East Valley 50, Sandpoint 42: The Knights (1-1) took a comfortable first-half lead then held on to beat the host Bulldogs (0-2). J.T. Phelan had 22 points and James Brown added 15 for East Valley. Sandpoint, which trailed by 11 points at the half, closed the gap in the second half but couldn’t complete the comeback. Jackson Olin had 17 points for Sandpoint.

Colville 50, Reardan 40: Matt Hubbard had 26 points and 11 rebounds as Colville (3-0) rallied to beat visiting Reardan (0-1). Colville outscored Reardan 30-18 in the second half to erase a two-point halftime deficit. Alex Pond added 12 points and nine rebounds for Colville. Trevor Peone had 18 points and Roy Walser had 11 to pace Reardan.

St. George’s 57, Riverside 30: The Dragons (1-0) dominated from the get-go and began their season with a rout of the visiting Rams (1-2). Dexter Sienko had 15 points and 10 rebounds for St. George’s, which led 36-15 at the half. Will Tender had 14 points and Mark Kenney added 11 for the Dragons. St. George’s made 8 of 14 3-pointers. Jordan Wood tallied a game-high 22 points for Riverside.

Lewiston 57, La Grande (Ore.) 29: Brandon Fuentes scored 12 points and Ben Havens added 10 as the Bengals (1-1) beat the visiting Tigers. Lewiston outscored La Grande 17-8 in the second quarter to take a 28-20 halftime lead.

Chewelah 67, Kettle Falls 16: The Cougars (1-1) had their way with the Bulldogs in a rout at Chewelah. The Bulldogs (1-1) were limited to just five first-quarter points and didn’t score in the second quarter. Phil Withington had seven points and eight rebounds and Brandon Smith had five points and five assists for the Cougars.

Kellogg 85, Clark Fork 23: Garret Wendt and Ryne Stull scored 15 points apiece as the Wildcats (2-0) routed the visiting Wampus Cats (0-1). Kellogg held Clark Fork scoreless in the third quarter. Also reaching double figures for the Wildcats were Nick Serrano (13), Ryan Beggerly (11) and Taylor Hulstrom (10).

Wilbur-Creston 45, Columbia 38: Hayden Herdrick made six 3-pointers and finished with 26 points as the Wildcats (1-0) beat the host Lions (0-1). Herdrick also converted all six of his free-throw attempts. The Wildcats trailed by eight points at halftime, but outscored Columbia 27-12 in the second half.

St. John-Endicott 51, Moses Lake Christian 48: Four Eagles players scored 10 points and St. John-Endicott (1-0) slid past Moses Lake Christian at Moses Lake. Moses Lake held a three-point lead in the fourth, but the Eagles responded and held on to win. Kaleb Simon, Joey Kucklick, Dakota White and Evan Jones all had 10 points for the Eagles.

Asotin 70, Tekoa-Oakesdale 39: Asotin turned up the intensity in the second half and beat the host Nighthawks (0-2). Asotin outscored Tekoa-Oakesdale 33-18 in the second half to extend its 14-point halftime lead. Nate Dalton led five players in double figures with 14 points for Asotin. Max Mueller had a game-high 20 points for the Nighthawks.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 41, Columbia 38: Dylan Hartz had 10 points as the Broncos (1-0) edged host Columbia-Burbank. Bryson O’Neill made a field goal and hit two free throws to close out the game for the Broncos.

Liberty 55, Rosalia 46: Dylan Salsbury had 22 points and Zack Kunkel added 18 as the Lancers (1-0) beat host Rosalia (1-1). Liberty, which converted 17 of 20 free throws, forced Rosalia into 20 second-half turnovers. Craig Nelson had a team-high 16 points for Rosalia.

Valley Christian 68, Northport 26: The Panthers (1-0) caught fire in the second and third quarters and routed the host Mustangs (1-1). Valley Christian made 11 of 18 shots in the second and 10 of 13 in the third to put the game away. Craver Small scored 21 points, Kolby Blew had 17 and Nick Cox tossed in 14 for the Panthers.

Cusick 61, St. Michael’s 46: The Panthers (1-1) locked down on defense in the second quarter and held on to beat the visiting Warriors (0-2). St. Michael’s, which got a game-high 13 points from Gabe Durazo, had just two points in the second quarter.
