Smith, Butler lead Lake City to victory

Lake City pulled away in the second quarter and beat North Central 52-38 in a nonleague game Friday night in Coeur d’Alene.

The Timberwolves made three 3-pointers in the second quarter and led by 11 points at the half.

Jasmyn Smith had 13 points and Jansen Butler added 12 points and five rebounds for Lake City.

The Timberwolves improved to 3-2 and the Indians fell to 0-1.

Sandpoint 31, East Valley 28: Maggie Kirscher scored 16 points and the Bulldogs (3-2) edged the visiting Knights (0-2). Nicole Alamillo pulled down six rebounds and Hailey Olin and Jordan Speelmon had three steals apiece for East Valley, which had 19 offensive rebounds.

Lakeside 53, Medical Lake 30: The Eagles’ pressure defense forced the Cardinals into 44 turnovers and Lakeside (1-0) ran away with the season-opening win at Medical Lake (0-1). The Cardinals had no answers early on and finished with just two first-quarter points. Tayler Flemming had a game-high 19 points for the Eagles and Makenzie Biesecker led Medical Lake with seven points to go with her 15 rebounds.

Chewelah 60, Kettle Falls 37: Ryann Richmond came up two assists shy of a triple double and the Cougars (1-1) routed the visiting Bulldogs (0-2). Richmond had 13 points, 12 steals and eight assists for Chewelah, which had 26 steals as a team. Katelyn Garner had a game-high 14 points and LaVonne Smith had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars.

Riverside 39, St. George’s 29: The Rams (2-1) took advantage of a poor-shooting Dragons team and won at St. George’s (0-1). Courtney Davis had a game-high 18 points and made 4 of 5 3-pointers to lead Riverside. St. George’s shot just 22 percent from the field and had eight points at the half. Alex Wert had seven points and seven rebounds and Brianna Russell had six points and 10 rebounds for the Dragons.

Oroville 54, Republic 46: The Hornets jumped out to an early lead and held on the beat the visiting Tigers (0-1). Alyssa Stout had 17 points and 16 rebounds and Juliauna Largent had 17 points and 14 rebounds to pace Republic.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 50, Columbia (Burbank) 47 (OT): Davi Killian had 12 points and seven rebounds as the Broncos (1-0) slid past host the Coyotes in overtime. Dalyn Killian had 11 points and Brooke Pichette added nine for Lind-Ritzville/Sprague.

Columbia 74, Wilbur-Creston 37: The Lions (1-0) thoroughly dominated the first quarter en route to a win over the visiting Wildcats (0-1) at Hunters. Columbia had 11 of its 15 steals in the first half and held Wilbur-Creston to just three field goals. The Lions led 22-3 after the first quarter. Lindsay Loe had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Krista Colvin had 16 points, six assists and five steals for Columbia.

Cusick 76, St. Michael’s 26: The Panthers (1-1) displayed their dominance early and ran past the visiting Warriors (0-1). Cusick outscored St. Michael’s 24-5 in the first quarter. Katie Raynor had 11 points to lead the Warriors.

Valley Christian 40, Northport 30: Lindy Riggan had 19 points as Valley Christian (1-1) beat host Northport (0-2). The Panthers outscored the Mustangs 13-5 in the first quarter and led 22-11 at the half. Marissa Gilmore had 13 points and 17 rebounds to lead Northport.

Rosalia 52, Liberty 20: Mackenzie Reddish had 22 points as the Spartans (2-0) beat the visiting Lancers (0-1) in a sloppy game. Both teams combined to commit 45 turnovers. Aly Tee had a team-high seven points for Liberty.
