Spokane Chiefs lose 1-0 despite shots edge

Cam Braes scored on the power play at 12:02 of the third period for the only goal of the game as the Lethbridge Hurricanes beat the Spokane Chiefs 1-0 on Sunday in Western Hockey League action in Lethbridge, Alberta.

The Chiefs (13-8-2-2, 30 points) couldn’t find the back of the net despite outshooting the Hurricanes 38-18 and having two penalty shots in the third period. It was the second time this season Spokane has been shut out.

The Chiefs finished their five-game swing through Alberta 2-2-1, and end their season-long six-game road trip Friday night in Everett.

Mac Engel made 17 saves for Spokane, and turned away a Lethbridge penalty shot in the second period.

Uriah Machuga scored twice as the Spokane Braves battled back from an early 2-0 deficit to beat the Fernie Ghostriders 4-2 in KIJHL play at Eagles Ice-A-Rena.

Dylan Tappe and Matt Thurston also scored for the Braves (12-15-1), and Kyle Davis had two assists.
