Cold dry air entrenched over region

Winter temperatures will continue again today with few changes expected in the forecast. High air pressure is holding firm over the region, bringing a stable atmosphere with a mix of clouds and sun. It was 20 degrees at 7 a.m. at Spokane International Airport. Forecasters said the city is headed to a high of 37 with mostly sunny skies later in the day. The pattern should repeat itself through Saturday. An air stagnation advisory remained in effect for the entire region through 4 p.m. on Friday. Burn bans are also in effect across the region. Spokane currently has bans on use of non-certified wood stoves and fireplaces. Devices certified for lower emissions are still allowed. The controls appear to have kept pollution levels from rising beyond the moderate range. Computer forecast models are hinting at changes starting on Sunday. Forecasters have included a 20 percent chance of snow in the forecast then as a weak disturbance moves south out of Canada. Another weak disturbance tonight may only stir up light winds and is not expected to change the overall pattern of the past week.
