Crosby film festival Saturday

The sixth annual Bing Crosby Holiday Film Festival is Saturday at the Bing Crosby Theater in downtown Spokane.

The nonprofit Advocates for the Bing Crosby Theater presents the daylong event every December as a gift to the community and to celebrate the season, said the group’s president Bill Stimson. And, of course, the highlight of the festival is the showing of Crosby’s 1954 film “White Christmas.”

The festival is free, though the group suggests a $5 donation to help with expenses. Information is available at www.BingCrosbyTheaterAdvocates .com.

Free coffee, hot apple cider and cookies will be offered; wine and beer will be available for purchase after 4 p.m.

Displays during the event will feature Crosby’s Oscar for his role in “Going My Way” and photos from the collection of Jerry Dicker and the Crosby family.

The festival starts with a noon showing of “White Christmas,” followed by “Holiday Inn” at 2:30 p.m. and “Going My Way” at 4:30.

At 7 p.m., nephew Howard Crosby will perform songs and stories. A second showing of “White Christmas” is at 7:30.
