Area roundup: North Idaho men heat up in second half

Keon Lewis led six players in double figures with 15 points Wednesday as North Idaho rolled to a 76-53 nonconference men’s basketball win over host Columbia Basin at Pasco.

Lewis hit 6 of 10 from the floor and added four assists.

The Cardinals (10-1) shot 15 of 29 from the field in the second half to break from a three-point halftime lead.

Edrico McGregor added 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field and Antoine Hosley had 14 points and a game-high five steals.

Justin Smith led the Hawks (2-3) with 19 points.

Girls basketball

Post Falls 74, Cheney 45: Brooke Litalien led four players in double figures with 16 points and the visiting Trojans (5-3) took advantage of 25 turnovers to top the Blackhawks (2-1) in nonleague play. PF jumped to a 19-6 lead and wasn’t challenged. Cheney’s Allie Brown scored a game-high 20 points.

Sandpoint 48, Kellogg 43: Maggie Kirscher scored eight of her 20 points in the fourth quarter and the visiting Bulldogs (4-3) outscored the Wildcats 15-1 at the line for a win. McKenna Stewart hit 3 of 3 on 3-pointers and Kelsey Carter had seven rebounds for Kellogg (5-2).

Inchelium 52, Northport 19: The host Hornets (2-0) beat the Mustangs (0-4). No details were reported.

Boys basketball

Northport 48, Inchelium 26: Dylan Masters scored a game-high 11 points to lead the visiting Mustangs (3-1) past the Hornets (0-2) in a nonleaguer.

Gymnastics

Alana Norman swept the four events and captured the all-around title to lead Shadle Park to the team victory as the Greater Spokane League season opened with a five-way meet at Lewis and Clark. Hailey Barry finished second in the all-around for Shadle.

Indoor track and field

Eastern Washington’s Kersee Lind and Keisa Monterola were named Big Sky Conference Field Athletes of the Week for their efforts at last weekend’s Candy Cane Invitational at EWU.

Lind, a senior, broke his school record in the heptathlon with a score of 5,132 points. Monterola, a junior from Venezuela, broke Eastern’s record in the women’s pole vault at 13 feet, 11 1/4 inches.
