Crews respond to East Garland fire

Spokane firefighter are investigating the cause of a fire they responded to this morning. The blaze broke out about 11:45 a.m. at 35 East Garland. First crews arriving on the scene reported fire and smoke coming from the eaves of a single-story, wood-framed residence, according to a Spokane Fire Department news release. The occupant of the home told crews the fire started on the outside ad quickly entered the attic. “Firefighters aggressively attacked the fire from the interior of the structure while additional fire crews completed search and rescue, roof ventilation and salvage and overhaul,” Battalion Chief Joel Fielder said in a news release. No injuries were reported in the fire, which caused an estimated $25,000 in damage to the exterior wall on the home’s east side, the main floor and the attic. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Spokane Fire Department’s Special Investigations Unit. Twenty-five firefighters responded.
